A photo story

New steps, a handrail and a new liner.

Thanks for looking over our construction photos. On this project we added steps and a handrail to the pool, then replaced the liner. The work was done over three separate days, with several days in between to give the steps time to cure.

Filled: the new steps and handrail under clear water

The video

The job in motion

Of special note are the palm trees next door. Palm roots are notorious for pushing into pools, and you can see some of that in the photos below.

Out with the old

The old liner is cut out and the shallow-end corner opened up where the new steps will go.

Forms for the new steps

Wood forms are leveled and braced inside the pool: three steps, measured to the inch.

A handrail you can lean on

Holes are drilled in the deck and anchor cups set in fresh concrete, so the stainless handrail sits solid.

Concrete steps

The steps are poured and the forms come off. Then we wait: the steps need days to cure before the liner goes on.

Soft underneath

Foam goes on the walls and over the new steps, seams taped, so the liner feels soft underfoot.

The new liner

The liner drops in, its bead goes into the track, the border is set straight, and a vacuum pulls it snug.

Water

Filled, faceplates cut in, handrail on. Summer can start.
